Oral ExamsCleaning and preventative exams improve your health

During your first visit, you'll receive a comprehensive oral exam to identify problem areas such as cavities, fractured teeth and fillings, and other issues. Dr. Holliday and her staff will also focus on how your teeth are lining up with each other, and if they could ultimately cause headaches or other problems.

Dental Prophylaxis (Cleanings)

Routine professional teeth cleanings are essential to good dental health. Cleanings keep your teeth healthy and looking fresh. When combined with oral exams and x-rays, cleanings can also identify potential dental problems and treat them before they get worse. Tooth decay, oral pain, and even tooth loss can be prevented with routine teeth cleanings.

Periodontal Medicaments (arestin)
These medicaments are placed in gum pockets to reduce the size of the pockets and prevent gum surgery.

Periodontal (gum) issues are also looked for in teeth cleanings. One of the most common conditions affecting the mouth is periodontal disease. If the gums aren't properly taken care of, it can not only lead to tooth loss, but to general health problems as well, including heart disease and stroke. Periodontal disease is often caused by bacteria that infect the soft tissue of the gums. Early warning signs of periodontal disease may include swollen, inflamed, and bleeding gums. Periodontal disease is a serious dental problem, but with regular checkups and treatment, it can be significantly reduced or entirely prevented.

Non-Surgical Gum Treatment

Periodontal, or gum, diseases can often be treated in the early stages without surgical intervention. Dr. Linda Holliday utilizes arestin, an antibiotic used in conjunction with scaling and root planing to treat periodontal disease. Scaling removes tartar and plaque from the gums. This is followed by planing, which smoothes the root surfaces and allows the gum tissue to heal. Dr. Holliday will check the progress of the gums at a later appointment. As always, the best way to prevent periodontal disease is to brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and floss once a day to prevent the formation of plaque.

Digital Radiographs (X-Rays)

Dental X-ray examinations provide valuable information that your dentist could not collect otherwise. With the help of radiographs (X-rays), Dr. Holliday can look at what is happening beneath the visible oral tissues. X-rays pose a far smaller risk than many undetected and untreated dental problems.

If you are a new patient, then Dr. Holliday will recommend a full set of radiographs to determine the present status of your mouth and to help analyze changes that may occur later. If you have had recent radiographs at your previous dentist, Dr. Holliday may ask you to have the radiographs forwarded.

Oral Hygiene Instructions

Every patient who visits our office is give detailed instructions on how to protect his or her oral health. Basic oral hygiene instructions are vitally important, yet often overlooked by other dentists. Dr.Holliday educates all of her patients on how to properly take care of their teeth and gums. With that knowledge, the chances of big problems down the road can be reduced, even eliminated.

Pediatric Treatments

Dr. Holliday and her staff are proud to offer dental treatment to patients of all ages. The best way to prevent future dental problems is to start taking care of teeth and gums from early childhood on.

Fluoride Treatments

Many of us might remember rinsing our teeth with fluoride out of small paper cups handed to us in elementary school. Fluoride rinses are still important for children and no less important as we grow older. Routine fluoride treatments can assist in the fight against tooth decay by helping teeth build resistance to decay-forming acids. Dr. Holliday offers this standard dental treatment to children to keep their teeth healthy and prevent future problems.

Cleaning the uneven surfaces of the teeth can be a difficult task, which leaves these areas more vulnerable to cavities. Dr. Holliday can attach sealants to the teeth in order to protect them from this. Sealants are tough coatings that can block plaque and food from living in these hard-to-clean areas. First, the teeth will be cleaned and examined. Then, Dr. Holliday will coat the teeth with sealant, which will bond to each tooth and harden. The whole treatment should only take a few minutes for each tooth. Sealants are long-lasting and extremely durable methods of preventing tooth decay and other future dental problems.

Crowns and Bridges

A dental crown may be needed in the following situations:

1. To protect a weak tooth (for instance, from decay) from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth
2. To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down
3. To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't a lot of tooth left
4. To hold a dental bridge in place
5. To cover misshapened or severely discolored teeth
6. To cover a dental implant

Orthodontic Referrals for Braces
Dr. Holliday has an excellent orthodontist she can refer younger patients to for traditional braces, should they not qualify for Invisalign® treatments. Straightening out the teeth can not only make for a more aesthetically pleasing smile, it can help with other common problems caused by crooked or misaligned teeth. Dr. Holliday will go over all treatment options at the initial appointment.

Fillings and Bondings
The silver-toothed smile is a thing of the past - we offer white fillings or metal free fillings. We offer white fillings, bondings, cosmetic bondings that can change the shape, color and contour of your teeth and fill in any gaps.

During your visit, we will prepare the damaged tooth by removing the present filling or decay and binding the new composite to the surface of the tooth. The resin will then be hardened by a special light focused on the area. Fillings at our office, serving Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth, Wellington and Palm Beach Gardens, makes it easier for you to chew, smile, and talk.

Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays, or indirect fillings, are excellent ways of treating cavities and damaged or decayed teeth. Made of strong porcelain or metal, inlays and onlays are a longer-lasting alternative to traditional fillings. They are first shaped and molded to fit the teeth and then cemented into place. The inlay fits inside the cavity while the onlay rests on top of the tooth to provide durable and long-lasting results.

Tooth Extraction
It may not sound pleasant, but sometimes the best way to alleviate the pain of a damaged tooth is to get rid of it altogether. Dr. Holliday can safely extract teeth that have been damaged in an accident, or are irreparably fractured or decayed. Sometimes a tooth is beyond saving, and it can be removed before it causes anymore harm. After extraction, options are offered such as a dental implant, dental bridge, or partial dentures to replace the missing tooth.
